A significant event unfolded in Patna involving Veena Manvi, a candidate of Tej Pratap Yadav’s Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). She was arrested by Gandhi Maidan Police due to a pending court warrant in an older criminal case but was later granted bail by the court. The arrest occurred on the final day of nominations for the Bankipur Assembly by-election, right after Manvi submitted her nomination papers.
Manvi faced allegations under sections 403 and 418 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), related to misappropriation of property and cheating. Additionally, another fraud case involving her was set for a hearing before the ACJM-7 court on the same day. Her legal counsel raised concerns about the arrest process, claiming that the necessary legal formalities were already underway before the arrest.
Following her arrest, Manvi underwent a mandatory medical examination and was presented before the court, where bail was granted after arguments from both sides. Despite facing multiple criminal cases in the past, including allegations of forgery, cheating, and offenses under the SC/ST Act and cybercrime laws, the court’s decision allowed the legal proceedings to continue as per the law.
