The death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 4,333, with 16,740 people injured and 6,462 rescued, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. More than 18,000 people are being sheltered in 94 temporary camps established by authorities.
Amid the crisis, around 30,000 volunteers have offered assistance to the victims, with plans to involve them in home construction and repair efforts, as per Xinhua news agency. The government has initiated a Unified Housing Registry to aid those left homeless by the disaster.
To address the housing needs of those who lost their homes permanently, the government is working on providing quick housing solutions and repairing partially damaged homes. Additionally, plans are underway to establish camps with transitional housing for families while permanent homes are constructed.
Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has sought the release of Venezuelan funds frozen abroad due to economic sanctions, sending letters to various governments for assistance. She expressed gratitude for the international aid received from 28 countries to support the earthquake victims in Venezuela.
Rodriguez emphasized the importance of international support in the face of the tragedy, highlighting the unity and solidarity shown by countries worldwide. The focus now shifts towards rebuilding and recovering the affected areas for a better future.
