The death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 4,490, as confirmed by National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez provided an update stating that 16,740 individuals were injured, with 120,794 people receiving assistance. To aid those left homeless, authorities have established 108 temporary camps and shelters.
Venezuela continues to experience aftershocks, with a total of 1,222 recorded since the twin earthquakes struck. In response to the disaster, 31,837 Venezuelan personnel, along with 2,422 international rescuers, are actively engaged in disaster response efforts. Additionally, about 30,000 volunteers have volunteered to assist victims during this critical phase.
As many families remain without homes, the government has initiated a Unified Housing Registry to both survey the affected population and provide state-ordered financial aid. Plans are underway to swiftly address the housing needs of those who have lost their homes permanently and to repair partially damaged residences. The government also aims to establish camps with transitional housing for affected families while permanent homes are constructed.
National Assembly President Rodriguez highlighted the government’s intention to reform rental laws and introduce a credit and subsidy system to support families impacted by the earthquakes. Furthermore, efforts are being made to release Venezuelan funds frozen abroad due to economic sanctions, with acting President Delcy Rodriguez reaching out to various governments for assistance.
