Veteran filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter K. Bhagyaraj was laid to rest with full State honors at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium in Chennai. Known for his diverse talents in directing, acting, writing screenplays, dialogues, and composing music, Bhagyaraj was praised for his portrayal of everyday life with simplicity and humor, resonating with audiences of all ages.
Bhagyaraj’s storytelling prowess, characterized by clever dialogues and relatable characters, solidified his position as a prominent figure in Tamil cinema. His directorial journey began with Suvarilladha Chithirangal and continued with acclaimed classics like Mouna Geethangal, Andha 7 Naatkal, and Mundhanai Mudichu, blending romance, family drama, and comedy seamlessly.
Born in Vellankoil, Erode district, Bhagyaraj passed away at the age of 73 after a cardiac arrest. His demise drew tributes from the film industry, political figures, and numerous fans who gathered at his residence in Nungambakkam to bid farewell to the legendary filmmaker. The funeral procession, led by actors R. Parthiban and R. Sarathkumar, culminated in a solemn cremation ceremony at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium.
A floral tribute inscribed with “With Love, Yours, Bhagyaraj,” and a photo of him with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, highlighted his enduring impact on Tamil cinema’s golden era. Bhagyaraj received full State honors at the crematorium, where his mortal remains were cremated in the presence of grieving family, colleagues, and admirers, marking the end of an era in Tamil cinema.
