Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to be the chief guest at the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir on Thursday. The event, to be held at the main campus in Srinagar, will also see Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha presiding over the convocation. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will be the guest of honor at the ceremony.
The University of Kashmir, the oldest university in J&K, will confer a total of 59,558 degrees during the convocation. This includes certificates for undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD scholars. The presence of the Vice President at the event highlights the university’s academic and research contributions on a national level.
The convocation will be attended by various dignitaries, including J&K minister for higher education Sakina Itoo, vice chancellor Nilofer Khan, and senior civil and police administration officers. The university, with NAAC A++ accreditation, is ranked 34th in the NIRF rankings and is considered one of the top eight State Public Universities in India.
Adequate security measures have been put in place in Srinagar for the event. Vehicles entering the city are being thoroughly checked, and dry runs have been conducted along the designated route. Traffic restrictions will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., with exemptions for medical emergencies.
