The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is pushing for significant positions in the upcoming Tamil Nadu government, including the Deputy Chief Minister post, as talks escalate regarding supporting the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to establish governance in the state.
During a recent virtual meeting led by party chief Thol Thirumavalavan, the VCK deliberated on power-sharing arrangements, emphasizing its potential role in a TVK-led administration and the terms for extending support. The party has insisted on the Deputy Chief Minister position for Thirumavalavan and Cabinet roles for its two newly elected MLAs.
Having clinched two seats in the recent Assembly elections, the VCK now holds a pivotal role in the ongoing political discussions on government formation. Speculations suggest that Thirumavalavan might contest a by-election in Tiruchirapalli East if a vacancy arises, while TVK leader Vijay is anticipated to retain his Perambur seat, potentially triggering a bypoll in the aforementioned constituency.
Apart from power-sharing, the VCK leadership has raised various policy demands in the virtual talks, including the continuation of previous government-established commissions to investigate caste-related crimes and the enforcement of reservations in promotions for Dalits in public sector jobs. These developments unfold amidst the uncertainty surrounding the formation of the next Tamil Nadu government.
