Amid the political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu post the Assembly elections, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi held a high-level meeting supporting the formation of a government led by C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the largest party with 108 seats, is striving to reach the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Assembly. To garner backing, the party has sought support from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance members and received support from the Congress.
The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist have also extended outside support to a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi conducted a high-level committee meeting via video conference, with a majority expressing support for backing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s government bid. The party leaders emphasized the need for strong Dalit protection, legislation against honor killings, and a firm stance against communal forces in the proposed government’s agenda.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leaders suggested key roles for their party members in the government, including the post of Deputy Chief Minister for Thol. Thirumavalavan. Discussions also revolved around accommodating Vanni Arasu in the ministry and Thirumavalavan’s potential candidacy in the Tiruchy East Assembly constituency. Vanni Arasu’s social media post hinting at support for the Vijay-led government formation further fueled speculations about Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’s stance.
