Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has initiated a thorough investigation into the recent speedboat accident near Phu Quoc Island, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 Indian tourists. He has pledged to take strict action against those accountable for the incident. The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and instructed relevant authorities to provide necessary medical aid and support.
The ill-fated speedboat, with 32 Indian tourists, three crew members, and a Vietnamese guide onboard, capsized while en route from May Rut Ngoai Islet to An Thoi International Port due to adverse weather conditions. Following the mishap, rescue operations successfully retrieved all 36 individuals, with 21 survivors and 15 unfortunate fatalities among the Indian tourists.
Authorities have identified five bodies at Kien Giang General Hospital and transferred the remaining ten to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for further procedures. The Prime Minister has directed the local administration to mobilize healthcare resources for the injured, extend support to the bereaved families, and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the accident’s causes to prevent future occurrences.
In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Construction has been tasked with inspecting waterway transport safety in the accident zone and similar areas. Additionally, the ministry will enhance supervision of passenger boat services, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational standards. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will collaborate with the Indian Embassy to assist affected Indian nationals, while provincial authorities will conduct thorough checks on tourist boat operators in the vicinity of Phu Quoc Island.
