Sankgeetha Vijay, the wife of actor and politician Vijay, has filed for divorce in the Chengalpattu district court, citing his alleged affair with an actress as the reason. She has invoked sections of the Special Marriage Act 1954 in her petition. The court has summoned Vijay to appear in person on April 20 in response to the filing.
Sankgeetha, a UK citizen with a BSc in Biomedical Science from London, detailed that their marriage was first registered in the UK in 1998 and later solemnized in Chennai in 1999. She mentioned that their relationship was initially harmonious but soured in April 2021 when she discovered Vijay’s alleged infidelity.
According to Sankgeetha, Vijay’s continued affair and social media controversies since 2024 have caused her immense emotional distress. She claimed that their marriage has irretrievably broken down and sought its dissolution. Additionally, she requested the right to stay in their matrimonial home until the case’s resolution and asked for fair alimony and legal expenses coverage from Vijay.
