Pinky Rana, the village head of Kanchampur, received recognition for her outstanding work in providing clean drinking water to 950 households in her panchayat as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission. President Droupadi Murmu honored her at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on March 11 for her remarkable contribution and ensuring water access in her village. Rana credited the community’s collective effort for the successful completion of the project.
Returning home to a warm welcome from villagers after the Presidential honor, Rana expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of community cooperation in achieving such a challenging task. She detailed the monthly contribution of Rs 62 from each household for the maintenance of the village’s water infrastructure, ensuring its sustainability. Kanchanpur Panchayat, comprising three villages, now enjoys access to clean and filtered water.
Initiating the project in 2023, Pinky Rana dedicated three years to meticulous planning and collaboration, culminating in the successful connection of every household to the Jal Jeevan Mission. She highlighted the significance of the Presidential recognition in boosting morale and inspiring other elected representatives to implement government initiatives diligently. Rana praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on empowering Gram Panchayats and emphasized the pivotal role of community involvement in the mission’s success.
Water supply timings from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. allow residents to store sufficient water for daily needs. The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide tap water to rural households, has significantly expanded access to clean water, benefiting millions of households across India.
