A violent land dispute erupted in Bhakhwa village, Bihar, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to multiple individuals. The conflict, spanning over three decades, revolves around a disputed six-acre land parcel. Sanjay Chaubey was fatally shot during the recent clash, while others suffered severe injuries.
The deceased’s father, Kashi Nath Chaubey, had a longstanding feud with Kanhaiya Chaubey and Ganesh Chaubey over the same land. Following Kashi Nath Chaubey’s murder in 1991 related to the dispute, the accused were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Recently released on bail, Kanhaiya Chaubey and Ganesh Chaubey returned to the village, reigniting tensions.
Allegedly, armed assailants, accompanied by supporters, attacked villagers cultivating the disputed land, leading to indiscriminate firing and physical assaults. The injured were promptly taken to Sadar Hospital for medical attention. Dhananjay Chaubey, the deceased’s brother, criticized the local administration for perceived negligence in responding to the incident.
Police, upon notification, initiated an investigation into the violent clash. Four suspects, including Kanhaiya Chaubey, Ganesh Chaubey, Jagbali Chaubey, and Vashistha Chaubey, all residents of Bhakhwa village, were swiftly arrested. Additional law enforcement presence was deployed in the area to maintain order amidst the heightened tensions.
