Vote counting for the Davanagere South and Bagalkot Assembly segments in Karnataka is underway. In Davanagere South, the BJP’s lead has decreased to 3,925 votes from 8,539 votes, while the ruling Congress party leads by 10,321 votes in Bagalkot initially. These results hold significance for both parties.
In Davanagere South, BJP’s Srinivasa T. Dasakariyappa is leading over Congress candidate Samarth Mallikarjun with 25,878 votes against 21,953 votes after the seventh round of counting. The competition involves a total of 21 rounds of counting. Meanwhile, in Bagalkot, Congress candidate Umesh Meti is leading by over 10,000 votes against BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath after the 13th round of counting.
The bye-election in Bagalkot was triggered by the untimely passing of H.Y. Meti, with his son, Umesh Meti, contesting directly against BJP’s Veeranna Charantimath. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah actively supported the Congress candidate during the campaigning period.
In Davanagere South, the bypoll was necessitated by the demise of veteran Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa. The Congress fielded his grandson, Samarth Mallikarjun, while the BJP nominated Srinivasa T. Dasakariyappa. The BJP is aiming for its first victory in this Assembly segment, while the Congress is striving to maintain its position.
