The West Bengal Assembly elections saw a voter turnout of 41.11%, while Tamil Nadu recorded 37.56% by 11 a.m. on Thursday, as per data from the Election Commission of India. In West Bengal, polling began for 152 assembly constituencies spread over 16 districts in the first phase of the two-phase crucial Assembly polls. Voter enthusiasm was evident with long queues at polling stations.
In West Bengal, the first phase covered 16 districts including Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and others in North and South Bengal. The second phase for the remaining 142 assembly constituencies is scheduled for April 29, with results to be announced on May 4.
Simultaneously, Tamil Nadu commenced polling for all 234 constituencies, with over 5.73 crore eligible voters and 4,023 candidates in a closely contested election. The main contenders are the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Voters in Tamil Nadu turned out in large numbers at polling booths, reflecting significant public interest in the electoral process. The voter turnout is anticipated to have a crucial impact, prompting political parties to closely observe polling patterns.
