Priyadarshini Mallick, daughter of former Minister Jyotipriya Mallick, has been ousted from her role as secretary of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE). This move comes as part of a departmental restructuring following controversies from the previous administration. Despite being advised to resign, Mallick refused, leading to her dismissal by WBCHSE authorities.
The State Education Department sources revealed that Mallick was urged to step down due to a departmental overhaul necessitated by past scandals, including a cash-for-school-jobs controversy. She was eventually handed a dismissal notice on Thursday night. The state government recommended Mallick to return to her previous role as an assistant professor at Asutosh College in South Kolkata.
Jyotipriya Mallick, who faced charges in the PDS scam, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in 2023. His daughter’s involvement in the case was also highlighted, particularly regarding a substantial income from private tuitions. Despite his release on bail, Mallick was not reinstated to a ministerial position by the former Chief Minister. In the recent Assembly elections, Mallick faced defeat in the Habra constituency.
