The polling for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections covering 142 constituencies across six districts and Kolkata ended at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The voter turnout till 5 p.m. was 89.99%, slightly higher than the first phase on April 23.
At 6 p.m., queues were still seen at some polling booths, prompting the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to release the 5 p.m. turnout figures. The final polling percentage is expected to be announced later on Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
District-wise, East Burdwan recorded the highest turnout at 92.46%, followed by Hooghly at 90.38%, Nadia at 90.28%, and North 24 Parganas at 89.74%. The Election Commission noted the highest turnout in Harwa Assembly constituency at 94.5% and the lowest in Rajarhat-Gopalpur at 82.18%.
In Bhabanipur, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contested against the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, the turnout was 85.51% by 5 p.m. The Election Commission is considering re-polling in two booths in South 24 Parganas due to EVM malfunctions.
Following the voting, 700 Central Armed Police Forces companies will remain deployed in West Bengal for security and law enforcement as per the Election Commission’s plan issued on March 19, 2026.
