The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, presented a report to Governor R.N. Ravi regarding the post-poll violence following the recent Assembly elections. Alongside the report, the CEO handed over the gazette notification listing the 293 elected legislators. Despite elections being held in all 294 Assembly constituencies, repolling was ordered in the entire Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district, with results expected on May 24.
Discussions ensued between the Governor and the CEO on the state’s election and post-election developments, given that the administration remains under the Election Commission of India’s purview. The Governor received a report on the post-poll violence that occurred after the May 4 election results. The Election Commission had instructed key officials to maintain zero tolerance towards post-poll violence in West Bengal.
Amid a critical scenario where the BJP secured a significant majority in the Assembly, outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declined to resign, citing discrepancies in the election results and alleging a biased polling process orchestrated by the BJP with Election Commission support.
