The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Manoj Agarwal, is set to visit Kakdwip in the Diamond Harbour area of South 24 Parganas district following reports of voter intimidation. Measures have been directed to ensure voters can cast their ballots without fear.
Allegations have surfaced regarding miscreants on motorcycles threatening voters in Diamond Harbour, with intimidating slogans reportedly being chanted during a bike rally. Prompt actions have been taken by the election officer and local police to safeguard voters’ security.
CEO Manoj Agarwal is scheduled to convene a meeting in Kakdwip with candidates and their election agents before assessing the situation in neighboring areas alongside administrative and police officials. Subsequently, he will proceed to Katwa in East Burdwan district, both locations being part of the upcoming second phase of voting on April 29.
In light of the ongoing preparations for the second phase of Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended five police officers, including senior officials from Diamond Harbour, for alleged breaches of conduct and impartiality failures. The suspended officers face immediate disciplinary actions.
