West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed satisfaction with the swift filling of seats in state-run engineering colleges, signaling a resurgence of trust among students in local technical education. Adhikari highlighted the positive trend of all Government Engineering College seats being occupied in the initial round of WBJEE Counselling, emphasizing the preference of bright students for higher technical education within the state.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to curbing the ‘brain drain’ from West Bengal, citing concerns over declining academic standards in state institutes and limited job prospects. He emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of higher education statewide, aiming to reverse the brain drain and foster a ‘brain gain’ scenario by offering world-class opportunities locally.
Under the new BJP-led government in West Bengal, a notable emphasis on revitalizing the state’s academic sector was evident through the appointment of separate ministers for school education and higher education departments. This departure from the previous administration’s consolidated education portfolio management was well-received by many educators and experts.
