West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee for alleged financial misconduct during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). Adhikari, while discussing the state budget proposals, claimed that Rs 325 crore was unlawfully paid to a national industry association for the summit.
Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta recently presented the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with ongoing discussions in the assembly until June 25. Adhikari, in a direct attack on Banerjee, presented a file to opposition MLAs, alleging her endorsement of the illegal payment of Rs 324.73 crore to the industry association during the BGBS.
Adhikari emphasized that the payment was unauthorized and a clear case of corruption, hinting at further investigations into alleged financial misconduct by the previous government. He had previously mentioned initiating a probe into payments of Rs 635 crore to an advertising-cum-event management company for organizing the BGBS, without directly implicating Banerjee at that time.
