India’s Ambassador to Hungary recently met with the Speaker of Hungary’s National Assembly to talk about boosting bilateral cooperation and parliamentary exchanges. The Indian Embassy in Hungary mentioned plans to establish an India-Hungary Parliamentary Friendship Group soon, emphasizing the countries’ shared commitment to democracy and parliamentary functions.
During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the Speaker’s ties to Balatonfured, which hold significance as both countries commemorate the ‘Year of Tagore,’ honoring Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to the city. In a separate event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar and his Tisza Party on their recent electoral success, signaling a shift in Hungary’s political landscape.
PM Modi expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Hungary to strengthen bilateral ties and advance the India-EU Strategic Partnership for mutual prosperity. The recent Hungarian parliamentary elections marked a significant change, with the Magyar Tisza Party securing a majority and ending Viktor Orban’s 16-year rule. Despite political shifts, the enduring friendship between India and Hungary remains strong, rooted in shared values and respect.
