West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari accused the previous Trinamool Congress government of widespread issuance of fake caste certificates in the state. Speaking at a government event in Mukutmanipur, he vowed to prosecute both those who obtained and those who provided such fraudulent documents. Adhikari emphasized the neglect of tribal communities under the previous regime and pledged to prioritize their welfare under the new government.
Adhikari highlighted the disrespect shown to Indian President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to West Bengal for an international Santhal conference. He criticized the lack of support for tribal development by the previous administration and announced significant budget allocations for tribal welfare initiatives. The current government has earmarked Rs 350 crore for tribal development and Rs 1200 crore for the Jangalmahal region, demonstrating a commitment to the progress of tribal and indigenous populations.
In the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party performed strongly in constituencies with a significant tribal voter base. BJP candidates secured victories in all 16 reserved Assembly constituencies dominated by tribal voters. Presently, West Bengal has 17 elected legislators from tribal backgrounds.
