West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari declared a compensation of Rs 4,00,000 for each of the families of seven individuals affected by sudden thunderstorms in the state. The victims succumbed to lightning, electrocution, and house collapses in areas including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, and Purulia. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
Chief Minister Adhikari assured that compensation would also be extended to those injured in the calamity. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing financial aid for property damage caused by the natural disaster. Adhikari acknowledged the irreplaceable loss of life but stressed the state’s responsibility to support the affected families.
Adhikari mentioned that Minister Agnimitra Paul’s team was overseeing the situation during the norwester season. He highlighted the state’s disaster management department’s preparedness and vigilance. The sudden norwesters primarily affected districts in South Bengal and Kolkata, leading to uprooted trees and temporary disruptions in internet services.
Authorities in Kolkata are working urgently to clear roads and remove fallen trees. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is actively addressing the aftermath of the storm to ensure public safety and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
