West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari instructed state police authorities to provide precise crime records data to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Adhikari emphasized abandoning the practice of understating crime data and ensuring accurate reporting to the NCRB.
During a meeting with top officials from West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police, Adhikari criticized the previous administration for underreporting crime data to the NCRB. He urged transparency in registering complaints and filing FIRs, especially concerning crimes against women and children.
Adhikari highlighted the need for the police to have more decision-making power during incidents. He directed the state’s Director General of Police to implement a 112 emergency service and reduce police response time to incidents, aiming for a five-minute target.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to establish cybercrime helpdesks in all police stations to combat the increasing cases of cyber fraud. Adhikari emphasized the importance of assisting victims of cybercrime, including marginalized individuals who have fallen prey to online scams.
