West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a probe into the corruption within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), which manages civic affairs in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Kurseong. The current GTA board, led by Anit Thapa’s Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM), is allied with the Trinamool Congress.
During his first visit to the hills as Chief Minister, Adhikari pledged recruitment of teachers and police personnel for the region. He emphasized the significance of the hills, stating his commitment to their development and honoring the sacrifices made by the locals for the nation.
Adhikari criticized his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of neglecting hill development and exploiting the region for leisure trips. He vowed a thorough investigation into corruption related to teacher appointments in GTA, promising strict action against the culprits.
The Chief Minister also addressed false cases filed during the Gorkhaland movement, ordering their immediate withdrawal. He assured compensation and a government job for families who lost members during the unrest.
