West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari offered the traditional Bengali snack ‘jhalmuri’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a significant National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gathering in Delhi. The event marked 12 years of the NDA government and PM Modi’s tenure as India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. PM Modi shared a video on Instagram showing Adhikari serving him the snack.

PM Modi then requested the vendor to serve ‘jhalmuri’ to other NDA leaders present. BJP President Nitin Nabin was also spotted enjoying the snack. ‘Jhalmuri’ gained prominence during the BJP’s campaign in West Bengal, with PM Modi stopping for a quick bite during the state’s Assembly polls. The snack’s name, derived from the Bengali word for spicy, became symbolic during the political contest.

Sources suggest that the NDA might pass a resolution congratulating PM Modi for surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s record as India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. PM Modi exceeded Nehru’s 4,399 days in office on June 10. While Indira Gandhi served for over 14 years, her tenure was not continuous, making PM Modi the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in Indian history. The NDA meeting aims to celebrate the government’s 12th year, focusing on achievements and future plans.
