The West Bengal Police are intensively interrogating Debraj Chakraborty, a former Trinamool Congress councillor, in an effort to locate Sumit Roy, an executive assistant associated with Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee. Chakraborty’s questioning is based on evidence revealing his ongoing communication with Roy, who has been evading authorities following charges of extortion and illegal land acquisition.
Investigators have uncovered financial ties between Chakraborty and Roy through a shell company named ‘DC Global,’ reportedly owned by Chakraborty. Transactions from this company’s account to Roy’s have provided specific evidence of monetary transfers. Roy’s alleged involvement in illegal land-grabbing in West Midnapore district came to light recently after the arrest of another Trinamool Congress member in a related case.
The state police have indicated that Roy’s primary role was to oversee the collection of illicit funds from various sources. Despite extensive search operations at multiple locations, including the residences of Roy and his in-laws, authorities have been unable to locate him. Chakraborty’s wife, Aditi Munshi, also implicated in the assets case, has been granted anticipatory bail by the Calcutta High Court due to the couple’s infant child.
