In a significant operation in the Islampur Police District, West Bengal Police utilized drones to thwart an alleged human trafficking endeavor, leading to the rescue of 17 minor girls and the apprehension of four suspected traffickers in North Dinajpur district. This operation marked the first instance of the Islampur Police employing drones to combat human trafficking rings. The police received a tip-off on Friday night indicating that several minor girls from Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat were being trafficked and concealed in a restricted area in the Champabagh region of Islampur.
Simultaneously, four human traffickers were arrested by the police. The successful operation involved the use of drones for surveillance, enabling the monitoring of the entire area. Despite some of the accused attempting to flee upon noticing the drone, law enforcement officers, who were covertly stationed in the vicinity, managed to detain and subsequently arrest four individuals. A total of 17 minor girls were rescued during this operation. Superintendent of Police for Islampur Police District, Rakesh Singh, hailed this operation as a significant achievement for the police force.
Singh mentioned that the initial investigation suggested a connection to a larger human trafficking network. The rescued girls, hailing from Bihar, Assam, and Gujarat, will be presented before the Islampur Sub-District Court for further proceedings. The police are intensifying their efforts to locate other individuals involved in the human trafficking ring. Additionally, surveillance along the international border areas with Bangladesh has been heightened to prevent similar crimes in the future. The rescued minors have been provided with counseling and necessary legal support.
