Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) founder Humayun Kabir stated during an interaction that West Bengal is expected to appoint a Muslim Deputy Chief Minister in the near future. The state will conduct its Assembly elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results to be declared on May 4.
Kabir emphasized his party’s aim to lead the government and provide representation to Muslims. He criticized the Trinamool Congress for allegedly reducing the number of Muslim candidates over the years, suggesting a lack of confidence in securing Muslim votes.
Furthermore, Kabir affirmed that his party would not support the Trinamool Congress in forming the government, underscoring their independent political agenda. He expressed confidence in winning seats in the upcoming elections, particularly in Muslim-majority constituencies like Rejinagar and Naoda.
In addition, Kabir hinted at fielding a non-Bengali Muslim candidate in the Bhabanipur seat, where a significant electoral battle is anticipated between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
