West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh announced plans to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, with a draft being prepared to address the needs of the tribal community. Ghosh emphasized that the UCC would be put into effect shortly, stating that the necessary steps were being taken to ensure its implementation.
A committee led by retired Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai has been appointed by the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari-led government to study the draft of the Uniform Civil Code Bill, West Bengal, 2026. The aim is to introduce a Uniform Civil Code in the state, with the final Bill expected to be presented in the Assembly in August this year.
The West Bengal Cabinet approved the draft of the Bill on July 2, signaling progress towards the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. In addition, Minister Ghosh highlighted the influx of investments in the state, assuring that the government is working to facilitate the commencement of industrial activities promptly.
Ghosh expressed that efforts were being made to expedite the process for setting up industries in West Bengal, ensuring that permissions are granted swiftly to kickstart operations. He noted that the government is committed to providing necessary support for business establishments, aiming to accelerate industrial development in the region.
