Gitanjali J. Angmo, the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after a 21-day hunger strike, has written to the hospital’s medical superintendent. She requested that no treatment be given to Wangchuk without her consent. Angmo emphasized that Wangchuk’s vitals were normal as of Friday, with his potassium level at 4.3 on July 17, 2026.
In her letter, Angmo stated that any medication or fluids administered to Wangchuk must be approved by them and purchased by them. She insisted on transparent sharing of medical reports, either digitally or physically. As of July 18, no reports had been provided to them, and they were only orally informed that Wangchuk’s potassium level was 2.9.
Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist, had been on a hunger strike for 20 days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi before being moved to the hospital. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been leading the protest, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak. Police intervened at the protest site, transferring Wangchuk to the hospital amidst protests by CJP activists and the public.
Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of CJP, alleged mistreatment by the police and claimed he was beaten and dragged on the road while attempting to reach Jantar Mantar after Wangchuk’s hospitalization. Dipke vowed to continue the protest and announced his own hunger strike in response to the police’s actions.
