The Women Art and Craft Festival kicked off at the Gujarat Legislative Assembly premises as part of the ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar Ghar Swadeshi’ initiative. Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary led the inauguration ceremony, joined by Deputy Speaker Purnesh Modi, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Dr. Manisha Vakil, Assembly Secretary Chetan Pandya, department officials, and citizens. Chaudhary praised the global recognition earned by Gujarat’s women artisans, especially in embroidery and traditional handicrafts.
Describing the event as a significant platform to showcase women’s talent, Chaudhary emphasized the importance of supporting and promoting traditional arts. He encouraged legislators to endorse such crafts in their constituencies for wider outreach and appreciation. The exhibition aims to highlight the hard work and creativity of women artisans, symbolizing self-reliance and the spirit of a self-sufficient India.
Dr. Vakil highlighted the festival’s focus on indigenous handicrafts and products crafted by women self-help groups from across Gujarat. The event, organized by the Gujarat Women Economic Development Corporation Ltd., aims to empower women economically, create job opportunities, and promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. The exhibition, featuring ten stalls showcasing handmade products, will run until February 28 at the Assembly complex.
