About 95% of workers in India feel confident in their skills, but only 64% are satisfied with their jobs, as per a report by ManpowerGroup India. The study, based on responses from over 1,000 Indian workers, highlights a complex scenario of employee well-being, job satisfaction, and confidence in the evolving work environment. Workers in India exhibit high levels of skills and confidence, with 95% expressing belief in their job abilities.

Nearly 90% of workers mention having career development opportunities, 84% note promotion prospects, and 90% are confident in using AI. Despite their current confidence, there is uncertainty among workers about their future roles. However, this confidence does not necessarily translate into job satisfaction or loyalty, with only 64% reporting satisfaction, according to the report.

The study also points out that there is moderate to high daily stress experienced by 53% of the workforce. Sandeep Gulati, Managing Director of ManpowerGroup India and Middle East, highlighted that while job satisfaction is at 64%, over half of workers face daily stress, with 75% experiencing burnout due to workload and long hours.

Blue-collar workers have the lowest overall well-being at 68%, while Gen Z women report the highest levels of daily stress at 64%. Middle managers and white-collar workers/senior managers find more meaning and purpose in their work, with 95% and 94% respectively, but are also among the most stressed work groups. The energy and utilities sector records the lowest well-being at 72%.

Workers in healthcare (52%) and financials and real estate (50%) feel the least secure in their current jobs, while IT (86%) and industrials and materials (85%) workers exhibit the highest job search confidence. The report also highlights a sharp decline in tech-confidence among Baby Boomers and Gen X.

Gulati emphasized that confidence alone is insufficient for engagement sustainability. Employers investing in visible career pathways, manager trust, and employee well-being are better positioned to retain talent, enhance long-term workforce resilience, and convert current confidence into sustained productivity.
