Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited temporary night shelters in Gorakhpur to ensure no one sleeps in the open during the severe cold wave. He checked shelters at Bargadwa and Raptinagar, interacted with residents, and distributed blankets and food. Adityanath instructed authorities to prevent people from sleeping on footpaths, roadsides, or railway tracks.
The Chief Minister emphasized providing respectful accommodation with proper facilities in night shelters. He mentioned releasing adequate funds to all districts for cold wave protection measures. Adityanath urged quick actions like operating night shelters, distributing blankets, and lighting bonfires in public areas.
During his visit, Adityanath gathered feedback from shelter residents who expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. He mentioned that Gorakhpur has 19 operational night shelters accommodating around 1,000 homeless and needy individuals. Similar arrangements are in place across all districts and urban areas of the state.
Adityanath called on voluntary organizations and charitable institutions to assist those affected by the cold wave by distributing blankets and warm clothing. He highlighted the importance of such acts as virtuous and noble. The Chief Minister’s visit to Gorakhpur marked his third inspection in a month to oversee cold-relief efforts.
