YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) strongly denounces the recent violent assault on its leader and former Rayachoti Municipal Vice Chairman, Dasaratha Ramireddy, in Andhra Pradesh. The party views this incident as a troubling indication of the worsening law and order situation and politically motivated violence in the state. Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, the YSRCP State General Secretary, criticized the attack, allegedly orchestrated by Minister Ram Prasad Reddy’s supporters using lethal weapons, labeling it as a savage and anti-democratic act. He highlighted a surge in assaults on opposition figures and party members since the coalition government came into power.
The YSRCP leader accused the government of manipulating the police apparatus to suppress dissenting voices instead of addressing public concerns. He alleged a shift towards a “Red Book regime,” where false charges are fabricated, and individuals challenging the government, party workers, and vulnerable sections of society are systematically targeted. The term ‘Red Book’ refers to a document carried by TDP leader Nara Lokesh during the elections, listing individuals who allegedly harassed TDP members under the previous YSRCP administration.
P.V. Midhun Reddy, a YSRCP leader in Lok Sabha, criticized the police for their failure to prevent the attack despite prior complaints by Dasaratha Ramireddy regarding threats and previous assaults. He expressed dismay over the lack of immediate legal action against the perpetrators, even in the presence of clear video evidence. Midhun Reddy demanded the swift registration of attempted murder charges and stringent legal measures to address the situation. He pointed out a concerning trend where police are quick to file cases against YSRCP social media activists but exhibit inaction when violent incidents involving ruling party supporters occur openly.
The YSR Congress Party issued a warning, emphasizing that the continued lack of action by authorities would undermine public trust in the law enforcement system and encourage further acts of violence. The party urged swift intervention to restore law and order and ensure justice for the victims of such attacks.
