A Special NDPS Court in Ahmedabad has sentenced a Zambian and a Nigerian national to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the recovery of 2.757 kg of heroin in 2021, as confirmed by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials. Hanchabila John from Zambia and Nwaobu Christian Arinze from Nigeria were punished under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and fined Rs 2 lakh each by the Special Court.
Acting on specific intelligence, NCB officers at Ahmedabad airport intercepted Hanchabila John, who was arriving from Dubai, and found 2.757 kg of heroin in his possession. John was identified as the carrier of the contraband and was subsequently arrested. Further investigation revealed that Arinze, a Nigerian national, was the intended receiver of the seized heroin and was also arrested by NCB’s Ahmedabad Zonal Unit.
The NCB filed a charge sheet against the individuals on February 28, 2022, for violating the NDPS Act, 1985. The NCB emphasized that this conviction underscores their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring justice, in line with the mission of a Drug-Free India.
