The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) in Mizoram has selected K. Laltluangkima as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election on June 18. C. Lalnunnema, the Vice-President of ZPM, made the announcement regarding the party’s nominee for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) is yet to reveal its candidate for the Rajya Sabha poll. With 27 members in the Assembly, ZPM holds a significant presence compared to the MNF, which has 10 legislators. The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are unlikely to field candidates for this election.
The term of the current Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram, K. Vanlalvena of the MNF, is due to end on July 19, 2026. Elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats, including those from the Northeastern states, are scheduled for June 18. The Election Commission of India has issued notifications for these elections, with polling set from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. and counting of votes starting at 5 P.M.
