Godavari. The name alone evokes a certain warmth — of lush green landscapes, gentle breezes, and stories steeped in emotion. Director Subhash Chandra taps into that nostalgia with Godari Gattupaina, a village-backdrop romantic drama releasing on 8 May 2026. Starring the energetic Sumanth Prabhas alongside Nidhi Pradeep and veteran Jagapathi Babu, this film offers a simple, sweet love story flavoured with father-daughter emotion and Godavari district charm. While the screenplay plays it safe, the performances and the film’s warmth make it a pleasant theatrical experience for fans of heartfelt Telugu romance.

Godari Gattupaina is a gentle, feel-good Telugu love story set against the scenic Godavari backdrop. Sumanth Prabhas brings likable energy as a village auto driver, Jagapathi Babu delivers a quietly powerful performance as a devoted father, and Nidhi Pradeep impresses in emotional scenes. The film’s straightforward narrative, charming comedy, and picturesque visuals make it a worthwhile watch for lovers of classic Telugu romance — even if the story follows a familiar path.

Plot Summary

Raju (Sumanth Prabhas) is a carefree auto driver from a village near Bhimavaram who has little interest in education but a big heart. His sister Samaikhya studies at college alongside Maya (Nidhi Pradeep), the beloved daughter of Shyam Babu (Jagapathi Babu) — a hardworking security guard who has raised his daughter like a queen, fulfilling her every wish while quietly fearing the day she might drift away from him.

After a series of spirited, unexpected encounters, Raju and Maya fall in love. But Maya, deeply conscious of her father’s sacrifices and the freedom he has given her, pulls away from the relationship — unwilling to do anything that could hurt or disappoint him. The film’s heart lies in this emotional tug of war: Can Raju win Maya’s love? And will Shyam Babu, who has given his daughter everything, ultimately give her the one thing she truly wants?

Performances

Sumanth Prabhas continues to build on the promise he showed in Mem Famous, and Godari Gattupaina sees him deliver a noticeably more mature and grounded performance. As Raju, the small-town auto driver with a playful spirit, he brings effortless charm and confident screen presence. His comic timing is sharp, his energy is infectious, and in quieter moments, he shows a sincerity that keeps the character likable throughout. He is clearly growing as an actor with each project.

Nidhi Pradeep is equally impressive as Maya. She brings a natural grace to the role, and her emotional scenes — particularly in the second half — carry genuine feeling. She holds her own against the more experienced cast and lights up the screen in her best moments. Her performance adds a layer of warmth that the film genuinely needs.

Jagapathi Babu is, as always, the quiet anchor of the film. His portrayal of Shyam Babu — a father who loves deeply but struggles to express it — is subtle and deeply moving. Every scene he occupies, he fills with quiet dignity and authenticity. His emotional scenes with Nidhi Pradeep are among the film’s most affecting moments.

Sudarshan and Rajkumar Kasireddy are a delight every time they appear on screen. Their comic energy brings much-needed lightness to the film, and their sequences with Sumanth Prabhas are among the most enjoyable in the first half.

Laila, returning to screens after a long gap as Maya’s mother, makes her presence felt despite limited screen time and leaves the audience wanting more of her. Devi Prasad, Rajiv Kanakala, Srivani, Viva Raghava, Rohit Krishna Varma, and Harsha Vardhan all contribute ably within their respective roles, rounding out a solid ensemble cast.

Technical Craft

Cinematography (Sai Santosh): One of the film’s genuine highlights. Sai Santosh captures the lush beauty of Godavari district with a photographer’s eye — the green fields, the river vistas, and the village life all feel authentic and visually immersive. The film looks beautiful on the big screen.

Music (Naga Vamsi Krishna): The songs are pleasant and suit the village atmosphere, though they may not be instant chart-toppers. The background score is energetic and adds pace to several sequences, though it could have been more restrained in places to let the emotional scenes breathe more naturally.

Editing: The editing is competent and keeps the narrative moving. The second half benefits from tighter pacing compared to the slightly leisurely first half.

Production Design & Values: The production under Red Puppet Productions is well-mounted for the scale of the story. The Godavari backdrop is utilized well, and the overall production quality reflects care and investment.

Dialogues: The film has some genuinely memorable lines. A standout: “He is not a security guard for the factory… He is a security guard for the house” — which neatly encapsulates the film’s emotional core.

Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Godari Gattupaina is a warm, earnest Telugu love story that wears its heart on its sleeve. Sumanth Prabhas is evolving as a performer, Jagapathi Babu brings quiet dignity to every frame, and the Godavari landscape gives the film a picturesque quality that makes it easy on the eyes and on the heart.
