The 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is about to begin in England and Wales, featuring 12 teams competing for the prestigious title. The tournament, starting on June 12, marks the largest edition in its history. England, the host country, is gearing up to host the event for the first time since the inaugural edition in 2009, where they emerged victorious under the leadership of Charlotte Edwards, who now coaches the national women’s team.
New Zealand, the defending champions, will be looking to retain their title after securing their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024. The tournament has seen various winners over the years, with England claiming the first title in 2009, West Indies in 2016, and Australia being the most successful with six titles to their name.
The participating teams have been split into two groups of six, with each team playing the others in their group during the round-robin stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, leading to the final match. The tournament will feature a total of 33 matches played across seven venues in England, with the final set to take place at Lord’s on July 5.
