Fifteen individuals, including police personnel and a Health Department employee, have been held following the emergence of a viral video depicting a woman flaunting a large sum of money at her home in Tripura’s Dhalai district. The video, which caused a stir in the state, displayed bundles of cash believed to be valued at several crores of rupees at a residence in Bhatkhowri area under Salema police station. Despite the video, authorities have not yet found any cash at the woman’s house, who is married to a police Constable.
Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag expressed strong dissatisfaction over the incident and instructed senior officials to swiftly respond and take strict action against all those implicated. Acting on the DGP’s orders, a team led by senior police officials, including Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Manchak Ipper, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath, and Dhalai district Superintendent of Police Rushikesh Jaysing Desai, launched a thorough investigation into the matter. As part of the probe, 15 individuals, comprising women, police personnel, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, and a Health Department employee, have been detained for questioning.
Authorities are currently interrogating the detained individuals at Ambassa and Agartala police stations. Once the interrogation concludes, decisions regarding their formal arrest will be made by the police. The investigation suggests a potential connection to an inter-state network engaged in illicit financial activities and drug trafficking. Notably, a significant cash sum of nearly Rs 5 crore has come under scrutiny during the ongoing inquiry.
