In Delhi’s Jaitpur area, a 23-year-old woman named Roshni was discovered dead, believed to have taken her own life due to pressure from her in-laws regarding dowry demands. Roshni had been facing persistent harassment from her husband and in-laws, who allegedly demanded money and mistreated her after marriage. The family revealed that the situation escalated when Roshni’s husband requested funds from her family for his mother’s cancer treatment.
The family disclosed that despite financial constraints, Roshni’s father managed to arrange the money and gave it to his son-in-law. Matters worsened when Roshni learned about her husband’s extramarital affair, leading to physical abuse when she confronted him. Concerned for her safety, Roshni’s relatives took her away from her marital home for a while.
After her husband apologized and promised no repeat incidents, Roshni returned home. Tragically, shortly after her return, she was found hanging in her room. Rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead on arrival. This incident has once again highlighted the issue of dowry-related abuse and domestic harassment in Delhi-NCR.
Delhi Police have initiated an investigation, registering a case under relevant laws concerning dowry harassment. This incident adds to a series of similar cases in the region, including the recent suspicious death of Veena Kumari in West Delhi, where her family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and physical abuse.
