A 26-year-old man named Huzaifa Farooq Ahmed Hashmi was apprehended from Bhayandar, near Mumbai, in a collaborative effort between the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Hashmi, after being taken into custody, appeared before a Thane court where he acknowledged understanding the grounds for his arrest as per official reports. The authorities, comprising the Delhi Special Cell and ATS, sought approval from the Thane court to transfer Hashmi to the Patiala House Court in Delhi for further inquiries.
The court proceedings involved the presentation of the accused’s chat records and financial transactions by investigators, who also requested his relocation to Delhi. The transportation plan outlined by the Delhi-ATS Special Team involved a train journey for Hashmi, for which a three-day transit warrant was sanctioned by the court upon request. With the court’s authorization, Hashmi is scheduled to be brought before the Patiala House Court on Friday.
Investigators disclosed that Hashmi had been communicating with Yawar Khan, purportedly situated in Pakistan, over the past month. Additionally, on May 30, the Delhi Police Special Cell detained nine individuals suspected of collaborating with a Pakistan-based ISI-Mumbai underworld network, with ties to the Dawood Ibrahim syndicate. The probe has identified around 600 individuals nationwide who were allegedly in contact with Pakistani criminal Shahzad Bhatti through various means, predominantly social media platforms.
As part of the operation, Sajid Mehboob Sheikh, also known as Arbaz Khan, was arrested in Kurla, Mumbai, while Tauqeer Rizwan Sheikh was captured in Mumbra. Both suspects have been transferred to Delhi for further investigation. The apprehended individuals were reportedly planning attacks in Delhi and Mumbai.
