Around 40 passengers were injured when a sleeper coach bus overturned on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Alwar, Rajasthan. The accident occurred near Chainage 139.6 on the expressway, with the bus reportedly traveling in the wrong lane before losing control and flipping over. The passengers, who were from various regions, were en route to Govardhan in Mathura for religious events and Bhagwat Katha programs.
Police suspect that the driver may have momentarily fallen asleep while driving, leading to the loss of control and the subsequent overturning of the bus. Following the incident, Rajasthan Police teams, along with NHAI ambulances, swiftly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue and relief operations. The injured passengers were promptly taken to Pinan Hospital for medical treatment.
Doctors attending to the injured revealed that six passengers sustained severe injuries and were transferred to Alwar for advanced medical attention. Authorities mentioned that the count of critically injured passengers referred to Alwar could increase based on further medical evaluations. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, with initial assessments pointing towards driver fatigue as the primary factor.
Lalita Goyal, one of the passengers involved in the accident, shared that she had boarded the bus in Sawai Madhopur on her way to Govardhan Ji for a Bhagwat Katha program. After the passengers were hospitalized, an NHAI team assisted in the clearance of the overturned bus from the ditch using a JCB machine.
