To mark 60 years since their commissioning, the 1966-batch officers of the Indian Military Academy, including veterans of the 28th National Defence Academy, will gather in Chandigarh this week. The reunion aims to celebrate their enduring bond and camaraderie, honoring those who have passed away and those who continue to cherish their friendship.
The reunion’s motto, “Time can erode the mountains and age can grey the hair, but the bonds forged in olive green only grow stronger with each passing decade,” reflects the deep connection among the officers. On June 15, 1966, nearly 300 officer cadets marched past the Chetwode Hall, carrying with them the timeless Chetwode motto in their hearts.
A Ceremonial Pipping Ceremony will take place on June 15, where new rank insignias will be officially pinned onto the uniforms of the Graduating Officer Cadets by their loved ones. This tradition symbolizes the completion of their training and their readiness to face the challenges of defending the nation with courage and sacrifice.
The officers of the 1966 course have a rich history of service, having participated in significant military actions such as the Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 and the Kargil War. They have held esteemed positions like Army Commander, Corps Commander, and have contributed significantly to UN Peacekeeping missions. The reunion will bring together these distinguished individuals to reminisce and celebrate their shared experiences.
