During the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’, authorities in Sopore took action against a drug peddler, resulting in 616 FIRs and 646 arrests. The campaign aims to combat drug abuse and dismantle narcotics networks in the Union Territory. Various awareness programs engaging over a crore people were conducted to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
The initiative also focused on mental health support, with 2,786 calls received through the Tele-MANAS counseling service. Health facilities treated 44,602 patients, with 148 successfully cured. Rehabilitation efforts included counseling sessions for 742 individuals at DDAC centers. Police operations under the NDPS Act led to the arrest of 435 drug peddlers and the identification of 160 drug hotspots.
Enforcement measures included sealing or demolishing 37 properties linked to drug activities. Assets worth millions were seized, and licenses related to narcotics were canceled. Substantial quantities of heroin, charas, and ganja were confiscated, along with the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation. Surveillance was enhanced through inspections, CCTV installations, and intelligence-based operations targeting drug offenders.
In Sopore, illegal opium poppy cultivation was addressed, with authorities destroying the crops and initiating legal action. The crackdown on narcotic activities extended to Baramulla, where a drug peddler’s property was demolished. The police emphasized their commitment to eradicating drugs and ensuring a safer, drug-free society.
