State-run dairy cooperative Aavin has refuted claims of a decrease in milk supply, affirming that milk distribution in Chennai remains steady and sales have risen compared to last year. The denial follows allegations from the Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Workers Welfare Association that private dairy companies were luring milk producers with higher procurement prices than Aavin. Aavin clarified that there has been no disruption in procurement or distribution, ensuring consumers in Chennai receive all types of Aavin milk packets daily without shortages.
In an official statement, Aavin disclosed that it currently provides an average of 14.50 lakh litres of milk daily in Chennai, guaranteeing uninterrupted availability through its vast distribution network. The cooperative emphasized its dedication to meeting consumer demand and has implemented measures to ensure a consistent milk supply. To counter claims of declining sales, Aavin released comparative data indicating an increase in milk distribution this year.
The data revealed that in June 2025, Aavin sold an average of 14.46 lakh litres of milk per day, which rose to 14.82 lakh litres per day in June 2026, marking a daily increase of about 36,000 litres compared to the previous year. Aavin highlighted that these figures illustrate a continuous rise in sales, disproving concerns raised by the milk agents’ association about a drop in consumer demand or milk distribution. The dairy cooperative dismissed reports of milk shortages or supply disruptions as unfounded and misleading.
Aavin urged consumers not to be misled by such claims, assuring them of ample stocks and normal milk distribution operations. The cooperative reiterated its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted milk supply as a top priority, guaranteeing the availability of all types of milk packets across Chennai without any issues. Aavin reiterated its vigilance in monitoring procurement and distribution processes to maintain a reliable and consistent milk supply for consumers citywide.
