Former cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), labeling it as weak and accusing it of granting excessive power to a small group, which he believes has negatively impacted the team’s results. Pakistan’s recent failures in ICC tournaments, including their exit from the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Super 8s stage, have sparked criticism towards both the players and the board.
Shehzad expressed his disappointment with the PCB’s decision-making, stating that they have failed to introduce new talent and instead resort to repetitive tactics after each event. He highlighted concerns about the PCB’s focus on favoring certain players through the Pakistan Super League (PSL), suggesting that this approach has created an unfavorable system.
Questioning the effectiveness of the promoted players from the PSL, Shehzad criticized the board for providing sponsorships, leadership roles, and significant control to a select few without yielding desired outcomes for Pakistan cricket. He emphasized the lack of accountability among players for the team’s poor performance, attributing the country’s cricketing decline to their reluctance to take responsibility.
Pakistan’s struggles persisted post the T20 World Cup 2026, as evidenced by their series loss to Bangladesh, a lower-ranked team, in a three-match ODI series, further denting their cricketing reputation.
