The Ahmedabad Customs Department confiscated 5.368 kg of hydroponic marijuana from a traveler who landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport from Bangkok. The interception, part of a series of drug seizures on the Thailand-Ahmedabad route, occurred after officers profiled the male passenger arriving on a Thai Airways flight.
Upon inspecting the passenger’s checked-in bag, officials discovered five packets wrapped in black polythene suspected to contain narcotics. A field test confirmed the presence of hydroponic marijuana, with a total weight of 5.368 kg. The passenger, a resident of Ratangarh town in Rajasthan’s Churu district, was apprehended, and the contraband valued at over Rs five crore was seized under the NDPS Act.
This incident is the latest in a string of similar cases at Ahmedabad airport involving passengers arriving from Bangkok. Recent seizures have highlighted attempts to smuggle high-potency hydroponic cannabis into India, prompting Customs authorities to enhance surveillance and profiling of international travelers on the Bangkok-Ahmedabad route.
