In preparation for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has assigned five Assembly seats to the Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) headed by G.K. Vasan. This decision, facilitated by Tamil Nadu BJP in-charge Piyush Goyal, resolves uncertainties surrounding seat-sharing agreements. The Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) is set to contest in Ottanchathiram, Erode West, Ranipet, Killiyoor, and Kumbakonam constituencies under the BJP’s ‘Lotus’ symbol due to Election Commission compliance issues.
The party president, G.K. Vasan, clarified that the shift to the lotus symbol was necessary due to challenges in obtaining approval for their original symbol. Emphasizing compliance with Election Commission guidelines, Vasan confirmed the party’s participation in all five constituencies under the lotus symbol. Earlier disagreements over seat allocation between alliance partners have been resolved positively, with the Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) securing all five requested seats. Negotiations within the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, which includes various parties like the BJP, PMK, and AMMK, are progressing smoothly, with the BJP and AMMK already assigned 27 and 18 seats, respectively.
As discussions on seat distribution near completion, the focus within the AIADMK alliance is shifting towards campaign strategies and candidate announcements, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
