In an effort to strengthen rural employment guarantees, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has established a Coordination Committee for the MGNREGA Bachao Sangram. This initiative aims to oversee and monitor the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), which provides wage employment to rural India.
Led by Ajay Maken as Convenor, the committee includes key party members like Jairam Ramesh, Sandeep Dikshit, and others. It also comprises heads of various Congress organizations and departments, reflecting a diverse approach to support the campaign. The announcement emphasizes the importance of protecting the MGNREGA scheme in combating rural poverty.
The MGNREGA, initiated in 2005, ensures 100 days of wage employment annually for rural households. The ‘Bachao Sangram’ campaign is a response to perceived threats and funding reductions to the program, with the Congress taking a stand as its protector. The committee is expected to coordinate national activities to maintain the program’s integrity and raise awareness on rural issues.
