All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, disclosed that 13 patients were taken to its Trauma Centre following the tragic fire in Malviya Nagar, which resulted in 21 fatalities and numerous injuries. Among the patients were three individuals who were injured while attempting to escape by jumping from the building. Two of them left the hospital against medical advice, while the third, a woman with a severe head injury, underwent surgery and remains critical.
AIIMS further stated that 10 of the admitted patients were Delhi Police personnel involved in the rescue efforts. These officers, who were among the first responders at the scene, are currently in stable condition and are expected to be discharged soon. Additionally, the hospital received three unidentified bodies, which have been transferred to the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department for further procedures.
The fire, which started in a basement restaurant of the Flourish Stay hotel, quickly engulfed the multi-storey building, resulting in the rescue of 47 individuals and the tragic loss of 21 lives. Several of the deceased were foreign nationals from countries like Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. Rescue operations, carried out by Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and disaster management teams, lasted for hours before concluding around noon.
Delhi Police have initiated a case under culpable homicide and other legal provisions. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, including potential safety and licensing violations at the hotel property.
